How do you determine the source of pain, say, a pinched nerve?
That’s where our expertise comes in. Chiropractors undergo five years of rigorous university-level education to become doctors of chiropractic. Then follow decades of everyday practice, patient treatments and observation. We are highly trained and experienced in diagnosing and treating various conditions related to the spine and nervous system.
What makes Sun Health Chiropractic clinic different from other clinics?
We offer a unique approach to treatments backed by over 25 years of clinical experience. We combine Chiropractic care, Remedial Massage and our exclusive DTMT (Deep Tissue Muscle Treatment) tailored to each patient, for lasting relief.
How was DTMT developed and why?
Before becoming a therapist, I was a patient.
I am a Korean-born chiropractic. In my youth, at 16 years of age, I suffered from a herniated/prolapsed disc and sciatica, which blocked sensation in my left leg and foot. I was dragging my leg to school, and as the symptoms worsened, I was hospitalised for a month.
A spinal specialist warned that I would end up in a wheelchair for life unless immediate surgery is performed. I was frightened of both, thus, for a time, I chose to explore every conceivable alternative. After about a year of treatments, I slowly regained sensation and was able to walk better. But I had to move very cautiously, as even a minor strain would trigger severe back pain. Chronic back issues then became a part of daily life.
After moving to Australia, I suffered another malady — trigger finger in my right hand. The pain was excruciating, my hand nearly immobilised. Despite receiving multiple steroid injections, no improvement was in sight. I was once again told that surgery was the only viable option. Facing a similar fear as earlier in my life, I was determined to find a better solution than that. But after various treatments, the symptoms worsened.
Struggling against pain and limited options for recovery, inspired me not only to study the effects of pain on the human body, but also how to heal it better. Though I originally majored in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, I changed my path. By the year 2000, I fully committed to studying chiropractic and musculoskeletal care, researched and applied treatments for the chronic pains in my back and my hand.
Does DTMT work for various types of pain relief?
Yes, it works. In 2001 I achieved a complete recovery by DTMT treatment of my own chronic pain. As it had helped me, I offered the consultations and treatments to my patients who suffer from chronic or recurring pains on their bodies and limbs.
This unique treatment method, Deep Tissue Muscle Treatment, is therefore the result of over a quarter of century of continuous development, dedication and refinement. It is a one-of-a-kind therapy that I now offer alongside chiropractic care. With it, chiropractic treatments become even more efficient.
DTMT is very effective. It is based on best knowledge I gained through my own chronic pains, and perfected to target and eliminate the root causes of persistent pains my patients suffer from. DTMT uncovers and resolves the underlying causes. It is suited to each patient’s specific condition.
2. Benefits of DTMT – Deep Tissue Muscle Treatment
What’s the difference between DTMT and deep tissue or sports massage?
Massage (whether it’s remedial, deep tissue, sports, or Swedish) mainly helps relieve muscle tension temporarily and improves circulation.
Massage is like brushing your teeth—it’s daily maintenance.
DTMT is like treating a cavity—it targets and fixes the root problem.
DTMT (Deep Tissue Muscle Treatment) is designed to address the underlying cause of chronic pain by retraining muscle memory and releasing deeply rooted tension that massage alone can’t fix.
Why combine Chiropractic care with DTMT?
Chiropractic adjustments can realign your spine, but muscle memory may cause your body to revert to old patterns—just like teeth can shift after braces if you don’t wear retainers.
DTMT works to change the muscle memory that pulls your spine out of alignment. That’s why combining Chiropractic adjustments with DTMT often leads to longer-lasting results.
Is DTMT available at other clinics?
No, it is not available at other clinics. DTMT is Dr. Yang’s signature technique, developed independently over more than 25 years of clinical experience. It is exclusively offered at Sun Health Chiropractic.
3. First treatment and ongoing treatments
What happens during my first and follow-up visits and treatments?
When you first come to the clinic, your initial consultation includes:
• Detailed medical history overview. More information you provide, the better.
• Orthopaedic & neurological tests.
• Physical examination.
• Postural and scoliosis analysis.
• X-ray referral (if clinically needed).
• Diagnosis and then personalised treatment plan.
Subsequent Visits:
• DTMT + Chiropractic spinal alignment.
• Review of previous progress.
• Adjusted treatment plan based on response.
What are the treatment costs?
• Initial Consultation (no specific treatment): $20 (15 minutes)
• Initial Consultation with DTMT/Chiropractic Treatment: $110 (45 minutes)
• Follow-up DTMT and/or Chiropractic Treatment: $90 (30 minutes)
4. When will I get better?
I play sports and go to the gym; so why do I still have pain?
Sports, gym workouts, gardening, or construction work, all such activities strain the muscles. Over time, tight muscles can:
• Pull on tendons, leading to tendonitis and burning pain.
• Compress nerves, causing numbness, tingling, or sharp pain.
Regular stretching before such activities (and before pain starts) is important. However, once pain sets in, workouts and stretching might aggravate the situation. That’s why professional treatment like DTMT is often necessary to resolve the root cause.
Do you treat multiple body areas in one session?
If time allows, we aim to treat all your areas of concern. If the session time isn’t sufficient or combining areas would reduce effectiveness, we’ll discuss it with you beforehand so you can decide how to proceed.
How long will it take to get better?
We would love to see you getting better as soon as possible. But that also depends on:
• How long you’ve had the condition.
• How deeply the muscle memory is established.
• The severity of your symptoms.
Most patients begin to feel improvement within 5–10 visits.
